The Water Slide

The morning Michael left for youth camp, Catherine confided in me, "Mom, I'm worried it's going to be really boring without Daddy here all week." They've pretty much figured out at this point that I feed them and Daddy plays with them. But lucky for them we actually had a pretty busy week planned.

Yesterday we spent a good part of the day with our favorite playdate friends. We got to spend some time with Daisy and listen for sleeping Lily while Carrie picked up Caleb from school. I feel like Daisy and Gussie have similar personalities at this point: stinkers and hams, both of them.

Although I think Daisy and Catherine are going to be exchanging hair tips before too long.

By the time Caleb was home and the kids had gobbled some lunch, Michael and Gussie could no longer resist the full baby pool and water table on the deck and were soon splashing around in underpants and diaper. Then we got out the sprinkler. Then the sprinkler went to the top of the slide. The next 30 minutes were non-stop kid giggles.

The big kids did a pretty good job of controlling the fast water slide to a point, planting their feet at the end and running off, but Gussie was sliding with abandon. By the time he got to the bottom, his momentum launched him several feet from the end, and kept him going several more feet over the wet grass before he slid to a stop.

It happened over, and over...

And over.

I think after the first slide he wasn't so sure about the whole thing, but we were all laughing so hard that he tried it again. By the time he was done I had tears rolling down my face. Yay for summer.
