In case you haven't been keeping track, Michael Jr recently turned 6 months old! If it was up to his sisters, he would have had cake for his birthday, but since it was up to me, he had squash.
I've been managing to feed him actual food about once a day, mostly baby cereals and now we're moving on to veggies. He already decided he should be able to feed himself, which increased the mess factor exponentially. Giving him his own spoon to play with did not help - he wanted control over both spoons.
And he freaks out when you try to put a bib on him, which he is going to have to get over if he ever wants me to feed him more than once a day.
At his 6-month checkup Michael Jr weighed 18 pounds 3 ounces (55th percentile) and was 27 and 3/4 inches tall (95th percentile). He showed the doctor all his tricks, including rocking on his hands and knees, pushing back from there to sitting, and toppling over. The doctor advised him that he could slow down on the physical development any time he felt he needed a break, but Michael simply reminded him that he has two older sisters who still think they are faster than him.
The doctor advised me, based on his experience with his 4- and 1-year-old sons, to get in the habit of vigilantly picking up all the tiny pieces of toddler toys that new crawlers specialize in finding on the floor. I have been noticing lately how many of the girls toys are exactly the size of a baby esophagus. I guess cleaning just moved quite a bit further up my priority list.
Michael Jr also got a slew of vaccines and I think he is reacting to them slightly. He was up all night and has a low fever this morning, along with general "dissatisfied with the world" crankiness. I'm hoping some playtime outside and maybe a trip to the swings will distract him.

The boy's working on a nice head of hair, and becoming quite dashing.
