Somehow, Dema managed to help me with Cheap Sally almost every day AND not neglect Christmas cookie baking. She needs a raise.
The kids did a great job with the cookies; they were 100% more of a help than a hindrance! First they did all the unwrapping of chocolate kisses and peanut butter cups, with only one incident of unsanctioned snacking.
Even Michael Jr helped.
In fact, after a while the girls got bored and wandered over to help Dema mix the dough instead, and Michael finished the job by himself.
He turned out to be quite the work horse when it comes to baking. Here he is juicing oranges for the orange cookies.
He did all the work, and Catherine and Mary got to do the fun part - icing the orange cookies - while he was napping.
It's ok. When it was time for decorating the cut-out sugar cookies, he was rested and ready to go. First the sprinkle ones.
Other than a little bit of over-sprinkling, they did a really great job.
Then it was time for the icing cookies. These turned out much better than I expected, both the process and the results!
First Dema put a layer of white icing on the cookies, then gave them to the kids who had bowls of red and green icing and toothpicks.
"Oooooohhhhhhh... look at my cookie!"
This is only the first batch. They finished a whole recipe worth of decorating, and were very proud of their creations!
