I've had a bit of a headache today. I am sure it has absolutely nothing to do with this.
Rest assured, this went on a lot longer than the length of that video.

Bryant Park
Sunday we took the train from Aunt Kristin's house in Queens into Manhattan, Grand Central to be exact. The first part of the ride was above-ground so the girls had a fantastic time looking out the windows.

They both had fun on the train ride in their own way: Catherine insisted that someone hold her in a bear hug/human seatbelt fashion the entire time, and Mary kept insisting I let go of her while she was standing on the seat looking out the window.
We had bagels for breakfast at Grand Central Station when we arrived. After that I almost couldn't get Mary out of the station because she was having so much fun looking at the bubbles and horses and fish on the ceiling. Then she was completely amazed when she saw a man playing guitar and asked, "Mom, is that the singing place?!" She could have spent the whole day at Grand Central.
While Aunt Kristin and family went to mass, D-ma, Grandpa T, the kids and I walked down to Bryant Park. I've honestly only ever seen it full of tents on Project Runway, and I have to say, it's much more beautiful sans Fashion Week. Catherine and Mary rode the carousel...

rode on some porch swings with D-ma...

and played in the fountain.

Grandpa T was the designated baby carrier for the city trip. As is his custom when snuggled into the carrier, Michael spent most of the time sleeping.

But he did perk up and look around now and then.

Catherine and Mary had a great time watching the city. Mary particularly liked the yellow taxis and the numerous buses, as well as all the pigeons (what they're looking at here).

Catherine liked skipping down the street with D-ma and all the tall buildings.

D-Ma and Grandpa T had to leave Sunday afternoon to make it to the beginning of their week-long sailboat adventure. The kids and I got to hang out with Kristin, Brian and Christopher one more day, and had a last hurrah at the pink-and-purple park Monday morning before we had to load up the car for the drive home.

The drive back took a bit longer than the drive out, due to a few extra stops and the fact that baby Michael was not too impressed to find himself back in his car seat for any length of time, but we made it! It's back to our normal routine this week, then next week Daddy heads out to California. Although we did ok the last time he was out of town, I decided to take most of the week off work this time to make it a little easier on me and the kids, and hopefully the weather will be nice so we can squeeze in some end-of-summer trips to the beach!

Vacation = Ice Cream
The girls are completely enchanted by the idea of being in "The Big City." However, at this point, the only thing they know about it is that it has a pink-and-purple park and an ice cream truck. I don't have time to caption all these photos because we're headed out the door to hop on the train and actually go into the city, but I think you can figure it out.

The Big Apple
Our drive to NYC this morning was just delightful!
I know that every one of you instinctively read large amounts of sarcasm into that sentence, but it's true - the drive was great. There was very little screaming, no spills or other... liquid accidents, and we only had to make three potty stops. Plus we didn't make any wrong turns or get lost at all, even in Queens!
Not long after we pulled in at Aunt Kristin and Uncle Brian's house, we decided to walk down to the park at the end of their neighborhood to let the kids burn off some energy after the drive, and we were also anticipating being shut in most of the afternoon and evening by Earl's rain. We ended up getting not a drop of rain, but it was a great excuse to go to the park.
First of all, the entire playground is pink and purple. It was made for Catherine and Mary. They and Christopher ran and climbed and slid and played on the swings until we were all hot and exhausted and hungry.

Christopher missed his usual nap, and although he tried desperately to keep up with the action the entire day, he konked out shortly before dinner.

However he revived for pizza and delicious little cupcakes from a NYC bakery, as well as some after-dinner coloring with the girls.

A full day tomorrow: D-ma and Grandpa T get here!
I haven't talked to Michael since Earl was supposed to roll by the Cape rather late tonight, but it looks like the storm tracked further east than originally predicted so the last I read had our area down to winds around 45 mph with gusts to 65 - no problem!

Remnants of August
First: Thanks to Daddy for taking on all three children last night so I could take a break for a few hours. The music was lovely and even made me fantasize about making time to practice my violin!
Second: It's hot again, but after the three straight days of rain and 55 degrees last week, I kind of like it. However it's not that great for sleeping, and Michael Jr is not that great for sleeping, and Mary's internal alarm clock is not that great for sleeping, so I'm a little tired. And apparently when I'm tired I forget to take pictures. There are only 93 pictures in my August folder, and I've barely edited it! Since it's September now, here's what's left from August:
Mary playing Cinderella in a Snow White dress.

The girls hashing out a temporary truce from bickering.

And Michael found his thumb, which is a little strange to me because neither of the girls sucked their thumbs at all.

Third: Here's something funny/completely insane: I decided to pile the kids into a car and drive to New York this weekend to visit Kristin, Brian, Christopher, Dema, and Grandpa T. Anyone in the habit of praying should start in around 9am EST Friday morning. :) Oh, and if Earl could stay out over the ocean where he belongs, that would be super helpful.
