Citygarden

Today, Grandma and Aunt Jena picked us up and treated us to lunch and a very fun time at Citygarden. This is a newer park, finished in 2009, that is a combination of sculptures and water features. We started at the end with shooting water. Can you guess what was happening just one second before I snapped this picture? Hint: see the drips coming off his hat...

As soon as he saw the water, Michael ran over to investigate. He spent a lot of time trying to figure out how, when, and why the water spouts turned on and off.

Catherine liked the fountains but spent most of her time splashing around in the little pool.

Mary did not think water randomly shooting up out of the ground at you was the least bit funny. She was coaxed in once or twice, but spent most of her time hanging out with me and my camera at a safe distance.

The other side of the park had a larger wading pool and a waterfall. Catherine immediately jumped in the pool and started leaping the series of rocks.

Mary was happy to sit on the side and would not hop down into the water until Grandma offered to go with her. With a buffer from the crazy kids and a steady hand to hold, she was pretty pleased.

When Grandma got tired, Aunt Jena was called to duty.

Michael was over the water for a bit. He spent his time pointing at trucks and following birds and a dog. He enjoys walking around with a towel wrapped around his shoulders.

I guess it's time to make him a few superhero capes.

Before we left the kids found a sculpture to play in.

Yes, Catherine is peeping out of an eyehole, specifically an eyehole of the dismembered head of Eros.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a little creepy to have a sideways head sculpture in a park largely frequented by children? Probably, because it apparently wasn't bothering the kids at all.

So if you happen to be downtown on a hot day, Citygarden is a nice place to cool off, play inside a hollow head, and take a picture of your goofy kids in front of the Arch.

Bonus: when we got home, all three kids took a 2+ hour nap.
