Ummm... It got cold and dark.

This morning I ran a 5K, you know, the one I registered for just to ensure that I would actually get back into a running routine post-Gussie. It would be lovely if I just had the personal discipline to get back into a running routine without having to commit myself to a race, but I don't and I know once I register for a race I would feel foolish showing up to it without having made any effort to prepare, so it works for me. Plus the entrance fee goes to charity.

Anyway, I got the whole family up super early (at their request, by the way; I gave them the option to stay home and sleep in but no one took me up on it). It was still dark and barely 40 degrees when we left the house so I had to bring the box of winter hats and scarves and mittens up from the basement! The kids all did a great job at the race, although they had a little trouble figuring out how to eat raisins with mittens on and they were definitely cold by the time we were ready to head home. Except for Gussie - he was wrapped up in a blanket and hat and snuggled in the baby carrier under Daddy's coat, so I don't think he noticed the cold at all.

Catherine spent the rest of the day alternately complaining that she doesn't want it to be cold and playing various pretend scenarios that required dressing everyone in winter gear. I think in this picture they were going hiking on the Katy Trail.

Side note: Can you see that space between Catherine's teeth? I've been watching it grow for the last few weeks, getting a little worried about such a drastic shift in her teeth, when it suddenly dawned on me that those are all still baby teeth on top. I gave the front one a little wiggle today and it is very loose - the gap is just because it is sliding to the side a little as it loosens to fall out! Yes, it really did take me a couple weeks to figure that out. I'm a little slow these days.

I'm also a little distracted by Gussie constantly smiling at me.

Ok, it's not constant, but it is frequent, and totally captivating.
