This is how she dressed in the morning - as a unicorn, obviously.
But then she opened a present from Dema and it was a dress with unicorns on it and unicorn socks so she changed into that instead.
Dema made a giant unicorn cupcake cake, complete with a rainbow main and tail and a "5" candle.
Edie really wanted games at her party, so we had a unicorn horn ring toss, and a unicorn craft, and pin the horn on the unicorn with a unicorn mask to wear when it was your turn.
After the pin the horn on the unicorn game was done Edie took her horn and repurposed it.
You know you have a big cake when you have to crawl onto the table to blow out the candle!
Edie as a five-year-old is possibly even more fun than Edie at previous ages. We like to say that her love language is "games" - she wants to play all the games all the time and she needs players! I think she in particular has been blessed with Dema and Grampy T living a few steps away because she hops over there (literally) almost as soon as I start school with the big kids and I'm assuming she just makes them play games with her all morning every morning. She is taking ballet this year at her request and loves that also, which seems natural given the amount of singing and dancing she does at home on a regular basis. Between ballet class, her Little Flowers group at church, and her Catechesis of the Good Shepherd class, I think she has enough classroom setting interaction outside the house that she is no longer mad at me for not sending her to preschool. If you ever ask her why she is doing something, her usual answer is, "because, why not?!" I guess it's not a terrible philosophy for a five year old to live by and it perfectly suits her happy-go-lucky personality at the moment. Happy Birthday Edie Bug!
