October 2020: Salt Lick Trail

There are some nice hikes not far over the river in IL, and another that we tried with Dema and Grampy T was Salt Lick Trail. It's a nice hike with a good uphill portion, a beautiful lookout at the top, and some old mines and caves scattered around. Unfortunately all the caves are blocked off, but we peeked in a bit. No bats this time!

It was a nice trail on a nice day and not too busy.

I hope these two are friends as adults - they sure are fun as teenagers.

When we got near the end of the trail, we could see the parking lot and the van through this cave, but it was blocked off and had signs warning us off from cutting through. We were tempted though.

And definitely jumped the ditch for a better look.

Agnes was fast asleep by this time - that first uphill must have been very taxing for little legs!
