Mental Prowess

I don't want you to think Michael Jr is all braun; he's a smart little guy. For example, he knows exactly what toys to wreck in order to get the biggest rise out of his sisters. He knows that the time to head for forbidden items, like the stairs or my computer, is as soon as my phone rings. He knows what two things in a room to bang together in order to make the loudest noise and he can pull his mittens off with his teeth less than a second after I get them on. And he knows that clapping and peek-a-boo are really fun.

However, I have to admit that verbally, he's quite a way behind where Catherine and Mary were at his age. This is normal for a boy, or for a third child, and I think you can figure out that he's both, so we're clearly not worried that ninety percent of his verbalization right now is one form or another of grunting punctuated by the occasional squeal. He has recently stumbled upon a couple consonants, using "ma ma ma ma ma ma ma" when he really needs something or "ba ba ba ba ba ba ba" the rest of the time. Mary loves when he gets into "ba ba ba" mode. At first every time he said it she would run around exclaiming that her little brother was a little sheep.

And if there's one thing Michael Jr knows extremely well for his young age, it's how to ignore a screaming girl. Cousin Kali recently learned just how adept he is at this.
